ZAKAT is a wonderful poverty edication system established by Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) in his time. It was carried forward during the caliphates of the 4 Khulfa-e-Rashiden. By the time, Hazrat Umer bin Abdul Aziz became caliph, would u believe, poverty had almost been eradicated from the society. People used to travel miles & miles carrying ZAKAT money in their hands and would not find anyone ready to accept that money. They really had to travel to far off areas in search of the potential ZAKAT recepients. With the passage of time, many persons, who used to take zakat previously, had actually became the givers of ZAKAT. By the way, ZAKAT is a FARZ in Islam, & not an optional thing. We can find many today who pray 5 times a day with full religious zeal. Why? Because, Namaz is farz. Yet, they have never ever paid ZAKAT. Some do pay ZAKAT but according to their self-devised formula. So, it's high time that we educate ourselves about ZAKAT and start paying it honestly. Believe me, if all the rich do that, the number is beggars on the roads will diminish considerably. If we people start paying our due ZAKAT honestly every year, there will be a visible change in our situation.

I've had a carpenter in my building who has just one hand. And YET THEY refuse to beg. They diagnosis is half cure... lets not delay the treatment... I have read somewhere that begging is forbidden in sikh religion and its not liked by Prohpet Muhammad PBUH although not declared haram... its not hard to find the real deserving ones and we need to encourage jobs and business... Indeed the writing and the theme is fine but to complement if u have something to offer in the name of Allah there is no harm and you can judge very easily who is a real desolate kind and who is just asking for the sake of it. Besides you do for the sake of Allah so why bother who you are making a charity. The real deserving should be helped whether asking for charity or selling something to earn a livelihood both gestures are commendable in the eyes of the creator of mankind. dear Sarmad i beg to differ with you for this post of yours.
