1. Never worry too much about what you might forget to pack. Just pack whatever you do, because no material thing is as essential on a journey as you might think it is, and hardly anything is irreplaceable.
2. Don’t be too concerned about what might go wrong in a journey. You might miss a flight, or fall sick, or find out that your reservations have been cancelled. These things are not bad per se, they are just things you didn’t plan on encountering and for just that reason, could be the opportunities you never counted on getting.
3. Interact with strangers. Contrary to the general perception, interaction with strangers is not dangerous, it is in fact one of the best learning experiences. And you never know where you might meet a prospective life-long friend.
4. Do not trust strangers; in fact do not trust anyone too much except God and yourself. Keep your eyes and ears open and your mind working.
5. Do not spend the journey waiting. The worst thing one can do is divide his time between waiting for a part of the journey to start, then waiting for it to end only to move to waiting for the next phase to start.
6. Enjoy every moment, even the unexpected turbulence. Most of the time, there is nothing you can do to avoid such turbulence; all that is in your hands is to have fun even in turbulent periods.
7. Keep reminding yourself that the journey itself is far more exciting than actually getting to the destination.
8. Do not complain about the lack of quality of the service you get. If you can, do something to improve it, otherwise sit back and enjoy.
9. Be thankful to everyone who helps you even the tiniest bit or shows that he/she cares for you, thanking others lifts the spirit and makes one capable of doing good oneself.
10. Never fret too much about what’s going to happen when you get to your destination. Worrying might not change the results, but it would sure ruin the fun of traveling.
In short, have fun. And since life is a journey itself, go back to the top and read the ten things again, to make sure you remember them in the most important journey of all.
